Individual

Therapy

Before I get into the logistics, I know that there is a spectrum of people that range from "never having been to therapy", to "I've been in therapy since I was 3".

There is no right way to do therapy. Long-term, short-term, intensive, talk therapy, art therapy, different treatments, situational therapy, couples therapy, etc. But what it really comes down to is what people, in the therapy realm, call the "therapeutic relationship".

If you don't "vibe" with your therapist then therapy is going to be a drag. This is going to look different for everyone, and it's okay if it takes a few tries with different people to find someone who fits better.

To know more about the way I work and my approach to therapy, I am happy to discuss this more in the intake session!

Okay, now on to the logistics....

In general, weekly sessions are 60 minutes long and are done via Zoom. However, the number of sessions per week and the length of sessions can always vary and be re-negotiated based on the needs of the individual.

I operate from a community-based and abolitionist model which means I do not call the cops in a crisis situation. Instead, I work with the person to determine alternative options that are in their best interest. Studies have shown that calling police in a mental health crisis can often be more harmful than helpful. Therefore, I require that alternative contacts are identified in emergency situations and are discussed in our initial meeting.
